What’s our end game here?

My point here is to encourage anyone who’s felt the weight of right/wrong in a creative endeavor. There’s great resources like those mentioned above, great thoughts and insights from people who’ve shaped our craft. But it’s not dogma to be believed at the risk of excommunication.
He’s absolutely right. Modular scales are a tool. In promoting their use for web work, my hope is to remind designers that there are meaningful ways to measure compositions. Ways intimately related to the typefaces used, the content at hand, and the reader. Ways that maintain formal consistency, but also respect the web’s flexible nature.
Diligence and reason are valuable, but “punk, DIY” freedom from measurement is also valuable. Part of our job as designers is to negotiate a balance between the careful and the care-free.
