Nice Web Type

Nice Web Type is one place for web typography, following experiments, advancements, and best practices in typesetting web text. Handcrafted by Tim Brown, Type Manager for Adobe Typekit.

Vendor-prefixed typography reminder

Mozilla’s Tantek Çelik for A List Apart, in The Vendor Prefix Predicament:

Vendor prefixed properties were never supposed to be something developers could depend on. They were, and are, for experimental implementations and technologies in progress.

Remember those IE10 OpenType feature CSS demos from last month? Don’t use any of those vendor-prefixed properties without a non-prefixed rule to back them up. Microsoft’s font-feature-settings implementation is the more correct syntax (Mozilla’s was implemented much earlier):

element {
  -moz-font-feature-settings: "smcp=1";
  -ms-font-feature-settings: "smcp" 1;
  font-feature-settings: "smcp" 1;
  }

Combining Typefaces

I wrote a small book about combining typefaces. Buy it for less than the cost of a fancy beverage.
